Watchtower doctrine: Judges 1:19 (God couldn't defeat the Iron Chariots)
by southwest inthis weeks assigned bible reading is judges 1-4. i have never noticed judges 1:19 before which reads in the nwt as:.
jehovah was with judah, and they took possession of the mountainous region, but they could not drive out the inhabitants of the plain,* because they had war chariots with iron scythes.
but in the kj as:.

Jonathan Drake: "They lost faith in the face of such an enemy and failed to drive them out."
Read the Scripture carefully:
19 The Lord was with the men of Judah. They took possession of the hill country, but they were unable to drive the people from the plains, because they had chariots fitted with iron. Judges 1:19 New International Version
If the Lord was with them then that means that they had faith at that point in time, thus he should have accomplished the deed. There is nothing in this scripture that says they lost faith at that particular moment.

Dear typer-ers, you're doing it wrong!
by Simon inthere are many things wrong with the world, many injustices and crimes committed.
what if we could stop one of them?
wouldn't it make the world a slightly better place?

Why are the synopsis in the Forum or Active Topics list not registering upper case letters? Also, I can't seem to center any print. -

Was Jehovah strong enough for these chariots?

The iron chariot scripture is one of the verses that I cite in my personalized list of Bible contradictions. Here is my whole list. As for the Watchtower, they're not going to bother to respond to obvious contradictions.

Where did Bible writers get their ideas from?
by fulltimestudent inhere's an extract from a zoroastrian document.. ...and they will make a new world, .
freed from old age and death, from decomposition and corruption, eternally living, eternally increasing, and possessing power at will, when the dead will rise again, when life and immortality will come,.... and when the world will renew itself at its wish .
(sacred avesta, lines from the zamyad yasht 19).

I heard that Zoroastrianism has a Millennial doctrine that states that human history is supposed to last for seven divine days with the first 6,000 years being that of toil and misery but the seventh being the "Age of Wonders", a divine day of rest for mankind.
I wonder if this Millennial concept filtered down to certain Christian doctrine way back then.

Informative and interesting website recommendations please.
by nicolaou ini've got into a bit of a rut visiting the same half dozen or so sites most of the time.
i'd love to hear your suggestions for good sites featuring popular science (esp' astronomy and evolutionary biology), natural history, poetry and english literature.
and anything fun and surprising you might like to spring on me would be welcome too!

TED Talks on You Tube are also interesting. They cover a wide range of subjects and are relatively short in length. -

Thought I would introduce myself
by WateredDown ini have read the site with great interest over the last few weeks.
some interesting stuff thats for sure.. i have left the jehovah's witnesses (was almost going to say the 'truth') for some time now.
i was one of the lucky ones that was baptised then faded, no humiliating disfellowshipping but nonetheless was very hard to get myself out.

Welcome WateredDown,
I hope that the rest of your family treats you better than your dad. Are you married or have siblings that are still in?
It's good that you took control of your life by fading instead of getting disfellowshipped. I wish I had done that instead of challenging them head on - a no win situation.
You're right about the Witnesses having watered down everything from hours in field service to printed literature in quantity and quality. Let's hope that continues.
